333 Only at the end of December 1758, at the height of the Seven Years' War, the British captured Fort Duquesne did - or rather, not by the fort, and its ruins. Learning about another military expedition (headed this time by General Forbes), the French burned the strengthening and left the upper Ohio. Interestingly, Washington participated in this campaign. 334 The British refused to return the captured frigate, despite protests from the French for action taken against a country with which diplomatic relations were not severed.
